In the foreground, one can see what on aearial photos looked like easily navigable terrain. In reality, show spruce trees are still taller than me and they're definitely not navigable. By now, I was soaking wet, my knee was hurting a lot and the epic views that I had imagined was what you see here. Essentially, two layers of trees and then fog. So lesson learned: Clear-fell areas are clear of tree but full of debris and shrubbery. What looks like dense forest on the map will be easily negotiable since the dense tree growth will prevent shrubbery from growing very well.
For a brief moment when the rain took a break, I managed to get out of my tent to snap some photos. It's not like it was pouring that day but the entire experience was still so extremely wet because of walking through foiliage. My Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL3 kept me dry throughout the entire night, fortunately. Thanks, tent.
Fog and haze not only obstructs the view, it also makes for pitch black nights. What you see in the photo I could not see with my own eyes, all I could see were small dots.
