To someone growing up in China, it's probably nothing but just the fact that there's bamboo randomly (in this case probably planted) growing everywhere is pretty exotic.
Most buildings in China pretty quickly start to look old. It's hard to tell if it's just lack of maintenence or because of dirt form pollution. Might be a combination of both. From my window in Sweden right now, I see buildings from the 60's that look newer than these buildings from (I'm guessing) the 90's.
In the background is @ttyr's cousin and on each side of @ttyr is her cousin's twin children. She just crouched and the twins cheerily crouched beside here making for a picture perfect pose.
