Houttunynia Cordata, or "Sichuan Fish Root" as I've heard it called, is something most people have never heard of. Named so because it apparently tastes like fish, a bit. I'm not really sure I agree. On the other hand, here it's covered in chili oil so what do I know.
So this is pig's intestines, after which the restaurant is named. Now, I'm not particularly squeamish and I'll happily eat duck intestines and whatnot. However, pig's intestines have a very characteristic and somewhat overwhelming flavor that isn't really covered up by seasoning. But I'll have some every now and then. And I do remember this one being pretty tasty.
Something more westerner-friendly, a little beef stew with either taro or potatoes, don't remember which. Regardless, they both taste pretty much the same in this context.
